UV-Enhanced Formaldehyde Sensor Using Hollow In2O3@TiO2 Double-Layer Nanospheres at Room Temperature

Su Zhang et al.

Summary: Hollow In2O3@TiO2 double-layer nanospheres were prepared using a water bath method and carbon nanospheres as a sacrifice template. The nanocomposites exhibited a size of 150-250 nm, with an In2O3 shell thickness of 10 nm and a TiO2 shell thickness of 15 nm. The In2O3/TiO2 nanocomposite sensor showed significantly better sensing performances to formaldehyde compared to pure In2O3- and pure TiO2- based sensors, with a response of 3.8 to 1 ppm formaldehyde and a response time and recovery time of 28 and 50 s, respectively. The introduction of nanoheterojunctions and the photocatalytic effects of UV-light-emitting diode irradiation were found to contribute to the improved sensing properties.

Metal-Organic Framework-Derived LaFeO3@SnO2/Ag p-n Heterojunction Nanostructures for Formaldehyde Detection

Dong Xu et al.

Summary: Constructing p-n heterostructures using n-type and p-type semiconductor materials is effective for improving gas-sensing properties. In this study, nano-composites of SnO2 and LaFeO3 were synthesized by loading atomic silver on a metal-organic framework (MOF). The nanocomposites showed a high response value (Ra/Rg) of 498 to 10 ppm formaldehyde, but almost no response to 50 ppm interference volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Characterizations revealed that the improvement in gas sensitivity was mainly attributed to the MOF-driven strategy, p-n heterojunction, and electron sensitization effect of Ag.

Design, Fabrication, and Packaging of an Optothermally Activated Nanocrystalline Pd-ZnO-Based Selective CO Sensor on a Screen-Printed In-Plane Heater

R. G. Anjitha et al.

Summary: Continuous monitoring of gases at low concentrations, especially CO, is important for maintaining the safety of coal mines. This study investigates a selective CO sensor that operates at ppm level and triggers an alarm system. By exploring different material combinations (Pd-ZnO) and optothermal activation techniques, the researchers have developed a reliable, robust, and cost-effective CO-selective gas sensor. The use of nanomaterials with defect-oriented active sites has played a significant role in improving the sensor's performance and selectivity. The study also discusses the simulation, optimization, fabrication, and characterization processes involved in producing the CO-selective sensor.
