Terminal settling velocity for binary irregularly shaped particle mixture from fluidization study: experiment, empirical correlation, and GA-ANN modeling

Sudipta Let et al.

Summary: This study investigated the settling velocities of solid particles in different liquid-particle systems under quiescent conditions, and proposed a correlation formula to estimate the settling velocities of a binary mixture of irregular-shaped particles. The study also utilized a hybrid of genetic algorithm and artificial neural network model to predict the settling velocities.

Adsorptive removal of toxic malachite green from its aqueous solution by Bambusa vulgaris leaves and its acid-treated form: DFT, MPR and GA modeling

Koushik Ghosh et al.

Summary: In this study, bamboo leaves and bamboo leaves treated with sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid were used as biosorbents for the removal of Malachite Green from synthetic media. The adsorption process involved both physical and chemical sorption mechanisms with negligible sorption energy. Theoretical calculations and statistical models were applied to gain a deeper understanding of the adsorption mechanism and predict the removal efficiency of Malachite Green.

Preparation and Characterization of Chitosan/TiO2 Composite Membranes as Adsorbent Materials for Water Purification

Angela Spoiala et al.

Summary: Water pollution is becoming more severe in all aspects of human life. In order to address this issue, researchers have synthesized a novel composite adsorbent membrane for the removal of toxic pollutants in water. The chitosan/TiO2 composite membranes were successfully prepared through a simple casting method, with a balanced concentration of TiO2 to maintain both adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity. The composite membranes showed excellent antimicrobial and photocatalytic activities, making them suitable for complex water purification processes.

Cr(VI) and Cu(II) removal from aqueous solution in fixed bed column using rice bran; experimental, statistical and GA modelling

Shreyashi Sarkar et al.

Summary: Rice bran is an efficient adsorbent for the removal of hexavalent chromium and copper (II) from aqueous solutions, with removal efficiency influenced by flow rate, metal ion concentration, and bed height. Rice bran has a higher affinity for hexavalent chromium and shows potential as an eco-friendly adsorbent suitable for developing countries. Multiple linear regression and ANN-based genetic algorithm modelling successfully predict the removal rates of both metal ions separately.
