Tens of hertz ultra-narrow linewidth fiber ring laser based on external weak distributed feedback

Laiyang Dang et al.

Summary: We propose and demonstrate a single-frequency fiber ring laser with an ultra-narrow linewidth based on an external weak distributed feedback. The laser achieves single-longitudinal mode (SLM) operation using a pi phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating (PSFBG), and the linewidth is further compressed using a weak distributed feedback structure (WDFS). The resulting laser source has a high side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) and low noise, making it suitable for applications in coherent optical detection, high-resolution spectrometers, microwave photonics, and optical sensing.

Strong-feedback regime of self-injection locking and external cavity laser

Nikita M. Kondratiev et al.

Summary: Realizing the coupling of the laser diode to an external reflector can effectively suppress phase noises and stabilize the laser source. Locking a semiconductor laser to a high-quality-factor microresonator can narrow the laser linewidth. This study develops a more complete theory of the laser - resonant reflector interaction to describe this effect for high feedback levels.

Hertz-linewidth semiconductor lasers using CMOS-ready ultra-high-Q microresonators

Warren Jin et al.

Summary: Highly coherent electrically pumped integrated lasers with ultra-high-Q microresonators have been demonstrated, achieving a frequency noise of 0.2 Hz(-1) and a short-term linewidth of 1.2 Hz. This configuration not only relieves dispersion requirements but also enables superior optical performance driven by narrow-linewidth bench-top lasers.
