Dynamic and quantitative risk assessment under uncertainty during deepwater managed pressure drilling

Xiangkun Meng et al.

Summary: Risk assessment is crucial for the safety and sustainability of deepwater drilling, and managed pressure drilling has increased the complexity and uncertainty of drilling systems as an alternative technique. This paper proposes a dynamic Bayesian network for risk assessment of managed pressure drilling, which considers both stochastic uncertainties and fuzzy uncertainties in determining failure probabilities. The case study demonstrates the effectiveness of this method in evaluating and preventing deepwater drilling accidents.

A structural hidden Markov model for forecasting scenario probabilities for portfolio loan loss provisions

Oliver Bluemke

Summary: Accounting standards require financial institutions to consider multiple macroeconomic scenarios when calculating loan loss provisions. This paper proposes a solution to objectively determine the number of scenarios and forecast probabilities using a hidden Markov model. The model includes an adapted transition probability matrix that reduces the required parameters and improves the accuracy of the predictions.
