Development and use of geopolymers for energy conversion: An overview

Eric Enrique Sanchez Diaz et al.

Summary: This study revises the use of geopolymers for energy conversion, with a focus on their conductive properties, Seebeck effect, and piezoelectric effect. It discusses the effects of materials like TiO2 and carbon-based materials, as well as alkaline activator concentrations, on geopolymers. The research emphasizes the piezoelectric effects on geopolymers when incorporating graphene and TiO2 as fillers, showcasing their potential in solar, thermal, and mechanical energy conversion.

Recycling of Waste Corundum Abrasive Powder in MK-Based Geopolymers

Giovanni Dal Poggetto et al.

Summary: Recycling waste corundum abrasive powder in metakaolin-based geopolymer formulations can reduce waste amount and environmental damage, as well as lower transportation costs. The addition of waste corundum does not disturb the geopolymerization process and results in a stable and safe final product with improved ionic conductivity.

Potentiality of the Use of Pyroclastic Volcanic Residues in the Production of Alkali Activated Material

Germana Barone et al.

Summary: The study investigated the potential use of volcanic residues for the production of alkali activated material, particularly for the restoration of Baroque Sicilian architecture. By activating volcanic pyroclastic deposits considered waste materials and adding different amounts of metakaolin in the formulations, small quantities of zeolites were formed as a result of the alkali activation process. The mechanical-physical results showed a strong dependence of mechanical strength on the metakaolin amount, indicating the potential of these pyroclastic wastes for valorization in the restoration field.

Investigation of interfacial and mechanical properties of alumina-coated steel fiber reinforced geopolymer composites

S. Riahi et al.

Summary: In this study, alumina coated steel reinforced geopolymer composites were successfully fabricated and their interfacial and mechanical properties were investigated. Results showed that composites containing alumina coated steel fibers possess significantly higher mechanical properties and improved toughness compared to uncoated specimens. The flexural and compressive strength of alumina coated fiber composites were improved by around -17% and -14%, respectively, at 0.75 vol%.

Alkali-activated laterite binders: Influence of silica modulus on setting time, Rheological behaviour and strength development

Cyriaque Rodrigue Kaze et al.

Summary: The study found that the silica modulus of the activator used in the synthesis of laterite-based AABs significantly influences the resulting properties of the binders, with the optimum silica modulus being 1.3. Increasing the silica modulus of the activator has detrimental effects on the hardened properties of the AABs.
