Degradation of high concentrations of azithromycin when present in a high organic content wastewater by using a continuously fed laboratory-scale UASB bioreactor

Summary: The study evaluated a progressive acclimation strategy for treating high organic-content synthetic wastewater contaminated with azithromycin, along with testing a low-cost method for azithromycin determination. Results showed that even in wastewater with high concentrations of azithromycin and COD, significant removal efficiencies were achieved, demonstrating the effectiveness of the acclimation strategy.

Summary: In this study, an ultrathin porous phosphorus-doped g-C3N4 nanosheet bifunctional photocatalytic system was designed and constructed for efficient production of H2O2 and degradation of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Phosphorus doping significantly improved the utilization of light, enhanced the adsorption capacity for O-2, and inhibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers, thereby boosting the photocatalytic performance.

Z-scheme heterojunction composed of Fe doped g-C3N4 and MoS2 for efficient ciprofloxacin removal in a photo-assisted peroxymonosulfate system

Summary: In this study, a series of Z-type heterojunctions FexCN@MoS2-Y were synthesized for the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation under visible light. Fe3CN@MoS2-4 exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and could efficiently degrade other antibiotics. Reactive substances such as 1O2, h+, and Ovs played a dominant role in this system. Mechanisms and degradation pathways were explored to understand the enhanced CIP degradation efficiency.

The total removal of tartrazine, as well as the removal of COD and TOC, were achieved by these processes. The kinetics showed that the electrochemical process was three times faster, but the energy costs were similar at long treatment times.

Ultrafine Au nanoparticles confined in three-dimensional mesopores of MCM-48 for efficient and regenerable Hg0 removal sorbent in H2S and H2O containing natural gas

Summary: This research developed an efficient and regenerable Au/MCM-48 absorbent for Hg-0 removal in natural gas containing H2S and H2O. The nano-confinement of MCM-48 channels prevented the growth and agglomeration of Au nanoparticles, leading to excellent adsorption efficiency, outstanding capture capacity, and good regeneration performance. The absorbent showed high tolerance to H2S and H2O, making it a promising method for demercuration in natural gas.

The activation of PDS over P25M175 and pristine MIL-88A contributed to boosted CQ degradation efficiency through direct and indirect electron transfer. Active radicals and singlet oxygen were found to participate in the CQ decomposition, with proposed degradation pathways and toxicity evaluations of intermediates.

Surface oxygen vacancies facilitate ozone adsorption, while bulk oxygen vacancies promote ozone dissociation into reactive surface oxygen.
