Industrial-Current-Density CO2-to-C2+ Electroreduction by Anti-swelling Anion-Exchange Ionomer-Modified Oxide-Derived Cu Nanosheets

Yuan Zhao et al.

Summary: The study utilized an anti-swelling anion exchange ionomer (AEI) to optimize the local environment for CO2 electroreduction to C2+ products, achieving higher C2+ selectivity. In situ measurements showed that the anti-swelling backbone and N(CH3)(3)(+) groups synergistically regulated the local pH level and water content, leading to enhanced C2+ production. The anti-swelling AEI-modified catalyst demonstrated improved Faradaic efficiency and power conversion efficiency compared to most reported powder catalysts.

Active and conductive layer stacked superlattices for highly selective CO2 electroreduction

Junyuan Duan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a superlattice model with alternating metal oxides and selenide sublayers, in which electrons are rapidly exported through the conductive metal selenide layer to protect the active oxide layer from self-reduction. The active [Bi2O2]2+ sublayers retain oxidation states during CO2 electroreduction due to rapid electron transfer through the conductive [Cu2Se2]2- sublayer. Theoretical calculations reveal high activity of the [Bi2O2]2+ sublayers, achieving over 90% formate selectivity. This work expands the understanding and improvement of CO2 electroreduction properties in metal oxide systems.

In situ investigation of the CO2 methanation on carbon/ceria-supported Ni catalysts using modulation-excitation DRIFTS

Liliana P. L. Gonsalves et al.

Summary: Understanding the reaction mechanism on different materials can optimize the development of cost-efficient, high-performing catalysts for CO2 methanation at low temperatures. Ni nanoparticles supported on a carbon/CeO2 composite and pure CeO2 show excellent low-temperature activity, achieving up to 87% CO2 conversion with full selectivity towards CH4 at 370 degrees C. The study of the reaction mechanism reveals that the CO2 methanation reaction follows a combination of the CO and formate pathways on pure CeO2, while it only follows the formate pathway on the carbon/CeO2 composite.
