Investigation of acute toxicity, accumulation, and depuration of ZnO nanoparticles in Daphnia magna

Joyce Ribeiro Santos-Rasera et al.

Summary: This study investigated the uptake, acute toxicity, and depuration of ZnO nanoparticles using the model fresh water organism Daphnia magna. The results showed that the toxicity of the nanoparticles depended on their size and the presence of surfactant. Contrary to previous reports, the study did not detect any depuration of ZnO nanoparticles after exposure.

Summary: Metal-conducting polyaniline (PANI)-based nanocomposite materials have shown promising electrical, mechanical, and optical properties. In this study, different metal-PANI nanocomposites were prepared and formed nanocomposite-based electrode platforms. The results indicate that these nanocomposites exhibit improved electrical properties and could potentially be used in electrochemical applications.

Degradation of 3,5-dichlorophenol by UV-C photolysis and UV-C-activated persulfate oxidation process in pure water and simulated tertiary treated urban wastewater

Olga Koba Ucun et al.

Summary: UV-C and UV-C/peroxydisulfate (PS) treatments were compared for the degradation of 3,5-dichlorophenol (3,5-DCP), with positive effects observed on degradation in distilled water with increased pH and PS concentration. However, removal efficiencies decreased dramatically in simulated treated urban wastewater, indicating the need for further optimization in complex water matrices.

Aquatic Toxicity of Photocatalyst Nanoparticles to Green Microalgae Chlorella vulgaris

Cristina Adochite et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles such as TiO2, ZnO, NiO, CuO, and Fe2O3 are commonly used in wastewater treatment, but their impact on the environment and organisms like Chlorella vulgaris needs to be investigated further. Studies have shown that nanoparticles can inhibit the growth of algae and cause damage to their cell membranes.

Preparation of PANI Modified ZnO Composites via Different Methods: Structural, Morphological and Photocatalytic Properties

Nazli Turkten et al.

Summary: In this study, polyaniline modified zinc oxide (PANI-ZnO) photocatalyst composites were synthesized to address the dissolution disadvantage of zinc oxide. The hybridization method using emeraldine base of polyaniline (PANI-EB) was found to be more efficient in preparing PANI-ZnO composites under neutral conditions. The photocatalytic performance of PANI-ZnO composites was significantly enhanced compared to sole ZnO, with the hybridization method showing better efficiency.
