Iterative machine learning method for screening high-performance catalysts for H2O2 production

Bowen Deng et al.

Summary: Electrochemical H2O2 production through selective two-electron oxygen reduction reaction is a promising alternative to the traditional anthraquinone oxidation process. However, it remains challenging to screen high-performance catalysts for H2O2 production due to ambiguous activation mechanisms. In this study, an iterative machine learning (iML) method is proposed to drastically reduce the required training set size. By incorporating spatial coordinate information, the optimal catalytic activity among hundreds of single-atom catalysts can be rapidly screened out. It is found that RhO2N2(A) exhibits an ultra-low overpotential of 0.013 V, making it an ideal catalyst for H2O2 production. This work sheds light on accelerating the data-driven design and discovery of high-performance catalysts.

Summary: Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is a fundamental method for Blind Source Separation (BSS). This paper introduces a new approach called RAndom Matrix ICA (RAMICA), which works directly with third-order data tensors and preserves more structural information and general BSS assumptions. The RAMICA model and algorithm are developed by defining new statistics for random matrices and new procedures for whitening and independent component estimation. Experimental results demonstrate the superior BSS performance of RAMICA compared to competing methods.

A Model of Catalytic Cracking: Catalyst Deactivation Induced by Feedstock and Process Variables

Galina Y. Nazarova et al.

Summary: The quality of feedstocks and process variables significantly affect catalytic coke formation and catalyst deactivation in catalytic cracking. Experimental studies and industrial data were used to determine the influence of saturates, aromatics and resins (SAR) content in feedstock, as well as temperature and consumptions of feedstock, catalyst and slops on catalytic coke formation. A kinetic model was developed to predict changes in reaction rates and evaluate the impact of group characteristics of feedstock, catalyst-to-oil ratio and slop flow on coke content and catalyst deactivation. The results showed that high resin content in feedstock can lead to the highest coke yields.
