Genome sequencing and comparative genomics analysis of Halomonas sp. MT13 reveal genetic adaptation to deep-sea environment

Jin-Jian Wan et al.

Summary: In this study, the complete genome sequence of Halomonas sp. MT13, a bacterium isolated from deep-sea sediment of the Mariana Trench, was reported. The genomic characteristics of strain MT13 related to deep-sea environmental adaptation were analyzed by comparing with its closely related Halomonas species. The genome of strain MT13 contains genes involved in deep-sea environmental adaptation and provides insights into the adaptation strategies of microorganisms in the deep-sea environment.

Ecology and potential functions of plant-associated microbial communities in cold environments

Malek Marian et al.

Summary: This review discusses the taxonomic and functional characteristics of plant-associated microbial communities in alpine, Arctic, and Antarctic regions. The analysis of culture-independent and culture-dependent approaches reveals the main factors affecting the taxonomic structure of these communities in cold environments. Furthermore, the biotechnological applications of cold-adapted microorganisms from these environments are proposed. The existing literature suggests that plants in cold environments harbor complex and cold-adapted microbial communities, which play key functional roles in plant growth and survival under cold conditions.

Transcriptomic Analysis Reveals Common Adaptation Mechanisms Under Different Stresses for Moderately Piezophilic Bacteria

Han Wang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have found that bacterial strains isolated from surface environments and transferred under ambient pressure for decades still possess piezophilic characteristics under high hydrostatic pressure. This suggests that piezophiles may not be restricted to habitats with high pressure and have developed a common adaptation strategy to cope with various stresses. Transcriptomic analysis revealed differential gene expression related to antioxidant defense, intracellular compatible solute accumulation, and membrane lipid biosynthesis, which are crucial for cells to survive under high hydrostatic pressure.

Komal Ghauri et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of an inulin-type fructan producing enzyme from the archaeon Halalkalicoccus jeotgali was resolved in this study, revealing unique features compared to previously reported FTFs. The high negative electrostatic surface potential of InuHj likely contributes to its halophilicity. The findings provide targets for future structure-function studies of FTF enzymes, especially those from archaea.
