Sentinel lymph node localization and staging with a low-dose of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) enhanced MRI and magnetometer in patients with cutaneous melanoma of the extremity - The MAGMEN feasibility study

Nushin Mirzaei et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using a low dose of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) to detect and evaluate the status of sentinel lymph node (SLN) in melanoma patients. The results showed that the low dose of SPIO injection successfully detected SLN and reduced MRI artifacts, providing a non-invasive method for assessing the status of SLN in patients.

Optimizing Dose and Timing in Magnetic Tracer Techniques for Sentinel Lymph Node Detection in Early Breast Cancers: The Prospective Multicenter SentiDose Trial

Abdi-Fatah Hersi et al.

Summary: The study found that lower doses of SPIO injected up to 7 days before the operation have comparable efficacy to standard SPIO dose and RI + BD for sentinel lymph node detection in breast cancer.

Effects of iron oxide particles on MRI and mammography in breast cancer patients after a sentinel lymph node biopsy with paramagnetic tracers

Erkin Aribal et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of iron oxide particle deposition on follow-up mammograms and MRI examinations of patients who underwent sentinel lymph node detection with iron oxide particles. The results showed that accumulation of iron oxide particles caused artifacts on MRI examinations but were significantly lower in mammograms. Radiologists need to be aware of these artifacts while patients should be questioned about the type of sentinel lymph node detection before follow-up examinations.
