Predictors of disease recurrence after curative surgery for nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (NF-PanNENs): a systematic review and meta-analysis

V Andreasi et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to estimate the rate of disease recurrence and investigate risk factors for disease relapse in patients undergoing curative surgery for NF-PanNENs. The results showed a recurrence rate of approximately one out of five patients, with nodal involvement, tumor grade, microvascular, and perineural invasion identified as significant prognostic factors.

Systematic Review and Metaanalysis of Lymph Node Metastases of Resected Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

Masayuki Tanaka et al.

Summary: This study suggests that lymph node metastasis is not uncommon in small and well-differentiated PNETs, and it is associated with worse prognosis. Reevaluation of the watch-and-wait strategy for small NF-PNETs is recommended, with consideration of oncologic resection with lymphadenectomy. More prospective and controlled studies are needed in the future.

Microscopic Invasion of Nerve Is Associated With Aggressive Behaviors in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

Hao Zhou et al.

Summary: Neural invasion is associated with aggressive behavior in PNET, and it is more common in G3 tumors. Tumor size, tumor grade, and neural invasion are independent associated factors of aggressive behavior in PNET. Nomograms based on these factors show acceptable performances in predicting aggressive behavior.

Current status of medical treatment for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms and future perspectives

Susumu Hijioka et al.

Summary: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) have a diverse group of tumors, with established therapeutic options including somatostatin analogs (SSAs). The scope for future research in this field, especially in combination therapy with molecularly targeted drugs plus SSAs, is being explored.

Sporadic non-functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours: multicentre analysis

C. Ricci et al.

Summary: This study evaluated outcomes after surgery for sporadic pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (Pan-NENs), identifying 2019 WHO grade and ENETS TNM stage as important factors. Surgical approach may be without benefit for Pan-NECs, unnecessary for small G1 sporadic Pan-NENs, and insufficient for stage III-IV and G3 Pan-NENs.
