Unraveling genetic admixture in the Indian crossbred cattle by different approaches using Bovine 50K BeadChip

Summary: With the increasing crossbreeding in India, the admixture levels in composite breeds become unpredictable. In this study, the admixture levels of 72 Vrindavani animals were assessed using different software. The Frieswal crossbred cattle were found to have an average admixture of 62.49% Holstein-Friesian and 37.50% Sahiwal, while the Vrindavani population had an average admixture of 39.5% Holstein-Friesian, 22.9% Jersey, 10.7% Brown Swiss, and 26.9% Hariana. The study concludes that multiple approaches should be used to validate admixture analysis results.
