Prevalence, epidemiology, seasonality, and phylogeny of Anaplasma marginale in blood samples of goats collected from Punjab, Pakistan

Muhammad Naveed Aziz et al.

Summary: Tick and tick-borne diseases pose a major constraint to goat farming in Pakistan. This study investigated the molecular prevalence of Anaplasma marginale in goat blood samples from Khanewal district, Punjab. The results showed variations in prevalence according to sampling season and goat breed, with higher rates in summer and autumn. Age and the presence of dogs in goat herds were identified as risk factors for seasonal ovine anaplasmosis. A. marginale infection affected white and red blood cell counts in goats.

Molecular detection and prevalence of Theileria ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep blood samples collected from Layyah district in Punjab, Pakistan

Kainat Abid et al.

Summary: The study reported molecular evidence of Theileria ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep blood samples collected from Layyah district in Punjab, Pakistan, with a higher prevalence of Theileria ovis than Anaplasma marginale. Tick-infested dogs were identified as potential risk factors for the transmission of both pathogens in sheep.
