Latest Advances in Sow Nutrition during Early Gestation

Pieter Langendijk

Summary: The first month of gestation in pigs is characterized by changes such as embryo entry into the uterus, increased progesterone secretion, and embryo implantation. Adequate feed intake positively affects progesterone secretion and embryo survival, while low feed intake can be detrimental to pregnancy. Nutrients like arginine play a crucial role in placenta vascularization and uterine capacity during and after implantation.
