The economics and the environmental benignity of different colors of hydrogen

A. Ajanovic et al.

Summary: Due to increasing greenhouse gas emissions and the use of renewable energy sources, interest in hydrogen is rising. This paper discusses various ways of hydrogen production and analyzes the economic and environmental performance of different hydrogen colors. It also examines the barriers for faster deployment of hydrogen in fuel cell vehicles. The major conclusion is that the environmental benefits of hydrogen use depend on the production methods and primary sources used.

Protection of Oxygen-Sensitive Enzymes by Peptide Hydrogel

Oren Ben-Zvi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a specific dipeptide hydrogelator can encapsulate oxygen, restrict its diffusion and penetration in the hydrogel. The mechanism involves pockets formed between aromatic rings in the supramolecular structure to bind oxygen, maintaining the activity of oxygen-sensitive enzymes.

Reversible H2 oxidation and evolution by hydrogenase embedded in a redox polymer film

Steffen Hardt et al.

Summary: The research describes a redox-active film for bidirectional and reversible hydrogen conversion, which can be used for electrocatalytic energy conversion. By serving as both the anode material and a highly energy efficient cathode material in a biofuel cell, the film demonstrates high performance. The understanding of reversibility through a kinetic model has simplified the design principles of highly efficient and stable bioelectrocatalytic films.

Solvent-controlled O2 diffusion enables air-tolerant solar hydrogen generation

Michael G. Allan et al.

Summary: Efficient hydrogen evolution in air can be achieved by controlling oxygen diffusion in the solvent. By using deep eutectic solvents (DESs), photocatalysts can retain a high percentage of their activity and quantum efficiency under aerobic conditions, making them more effective than in water.
