Acid-base-induced fac → mer isomerization of luminescent iridium(iii) complexes

Anastasia Yu Gitlina et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that fac-Ir(C^N)(3) can be converted into the thermodynamically less stable mer form through a consecutive reaction with acid and base, which is fast, quantitative, and stereoselective and can be reversed by light. This new isomerization process opens up the possibility of using highly luminescent Ir(C^N)(3) complexes as molecular switches.

Enhanced luminescence in multivariate metal-organic frameworks through an isolated-ligand strategy

Ziwei Jiang et al.

Summary: Many luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) with desired functionalized ligands often suffer from solid-state fluorescence quenching, which limits their applications. In this study, two new zinc-based MOFs were synthesized with isolated ligands or desired functionalized ligands to address this issue. The solid-state fluorescence quenching was effectively suppressed and the photoluminescence quantum yield significantly increased, demonstrating the potential of the isolated-ligand strategy. The general approach can be extended to the development of well-functionalized LMOFs.
