Is hydrogen diffusion in amorphous metals non-Arrhenian

Chunguang Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, hydrogen diffusion in amorphous Pd-H and Zr-Cu-H alloys was investigated using molecular dynamics simulations. Our simulations revealed that hydrogen diffusion in the amorphous alloys follows Arrhenius behavior, contrary to previous computational studies predicting non-Arrhenius behavior. We demonstrated that the simulated non-Arrhenius diffusion may be attributed to a systematic error caused by insufficient simulation time. Additionally, we discussed the experimental non-Arrhenius behavior of hydrogen diffusion within the context of quantum tunneling and amorphous-amorphous phase transformations.

CO2 Entropy Depletion-induced 2D Amorphous Structure in Non-van der Waals VO2

Pengfei Yan et al.

Summary: Few studies have been conducted on the plastic deformations of inorganic semiconductors due to their brittleness. This study introduces hierarchical plastic deformations in a non-van der Waals VO2 crystal by utilizing a peculiar internal shear stress originating from the entropy deletion of CO2 in the crystal's tunnels. The strength of this stress field is significantly higher compared to external experimental CO2 pressure. The research further demonstrates that 2D amorphous structures can be obtained through the synergistic effect of hierarchical deformations in a 3D crystal.
