L-Shaped Heterobidentate Imidazo[1,5-a]pyridin-3-ylidene (N,C)-Ligands for Oxidant-Free AuI/AuIII Catalysis

Pengcheng Gao et al.

Summary: In the past decade, significant progress has been made in homogeneous gold catalysis. However, the exploration of Au-I/Au-III catalytic cycle has been less extensive due to the reluctance of Au-I to undergo oxidative addition and the stability of the Au-III intermediate. In this study, we report the activation of aryl halides at gold(I) by NHC (N-heterocyclic carbene) ligands, achieved through the development of a new class of L-shaped heterobidentate ImPy (imidazo[1,5-a]pyridin-3-ylidene) N,C ligands. This ligand platform shows great potential for widespread application in homogeneous gold catalysis.

Enantioselective Au(I)/Au(III) Redox Catalysis Enabled by Chiral (P,N)-Ligands

Chetan C. Chintawar et al.

Summary: The first report of enantioselective Au(I)/Au(III) redox catalysis using a newly designed hemilabile chiral (P,N)-ligand (ChetPhos) is presented. This concept has been demonstrated by the development of enantioselective 1,2-oxyarylation and 1,2-aminoarylation reactions, providing direct access to medicinally relevant compounds with high yields and enantioselectivities.

Hemilabile MIC∧N ligands allow oxidant-free Au(i)/Au(iii) arylation-lactonization of γ-alkenoic acids

Pau Font et al.

Summary: Oxidant-free Au-catalyzed reactions are gaining attention as a new tool for innovative organic transformations. This study successfully demonstrated the synthesis of two Au(i) complexes and proposed a rational design for oxidant-free Au-catalyzed reactions. A novel Au(i)-catalytic procedure for the synthesis of gamma-substituted gamma-butyrolactones was developed based on the fundamental knowledge gained on the redox properties of Au(i)/Au(iii) systems.

Divergent Gold Catalysis: Unlocking Molecular Diversity through Catalyst Control

Chetan C. Chintawar et al.

Summary: Gold complexes have emerged as powerful catalysts in divergent catalysis, offering unique reactivity profiles due to their tunable soft pi-acidic nature. They not only catalyze reactions of alkynes, alkenes, and allenes effectively, but also provide divergent reaction pathways over other pi-acid catalysts like Ag, Pt, Pd, Rh, Cu, In, Sc, Hg, Zn, etc. Reviews documenting such examples are sporadic, hindering the further development of this burgeoning field, thus necessitating a unified approach like Divergent Gold Catalysis (DGC) to consolidate reports and pave the way for advancement.

Gold-Catalyzed 1,2-Aminoarylation of Alkenes with External Amines

Akash G. Tathe et al.

Summary: The study reported a gold-catalyzed 1,2-aminoarylation of alkenes using external amines as coupling partners. By carefully optimizing the reaction conditions, the researchers were able to achieve highly chemoselective access to the desired aminoarylation products by controlling the concentration of base. This strategy provided straightforward access to medicinally relevant derivatives like 3-aminochroman, 2-aminotetrahydronaphthalene, and 2-aminoindane.

The interplay of carbophilic activation and Au(i)/Au(iii) catalysis: an emerging technique for 1,2-difunctionalization of C-C multiple bonds

Vivek W. Bhoyare et al.

Summary: Gold complexes are favored catalysts for functionalization reactions of C-C multiple bonds due to their carbophilic nature, and efforts to achieve less accessible cross-coupling reactivity have led to the development of Au(i)/Au(iii) redox cycle. The interplay of carbophilic activation and Au(i)/Au(iii) catalysis in gold catalysis has allowed the development of a novel mechanistic paradigm for 1,2-difunctionalization reactions of various C-C multiple bonds.
