Predicting CO2 solubility in aqueous and organic electrolyte solutions with ePC-SAFT advanced

Daniel Schick et al.

Summary: In this work, the ePC-SAFT advanced model was applied to study the solubility of CO2 in various organic solvents, aqueous solvent mixtures, and aqueous electrolyte solutions. The results showed that CO2 had the highest solubility in non-polar solvents, and all salts except carbonates caused salting-out effects on CO2 solubility. The strength of the salting-out effect was related to the charge density of the ions. It was found that ePC-SAFT advanced could predict the salt influence on CO2 solubility without fitting binary interaction parameters for the first time.

Influence of solvent and salt on kinetics and equilibrium of esterification reactions

Daniel Pabsch et al.

Summary: The influence of the solvent N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and the salt LiCl on the esterification of acetic acid or propionic acid with ethanol was investigated. Reaction kinetics were measured using in situ FTIR spectroscopy, and a thermodynamic activity-based kinetic approach was used to predict the influences of NMP and LiCl on kinetics and equilibrium. The experimental results were in good agreement with the predictions, indicating the importance of NMP and LiCl on reaction rate, equilibrium, and homogeneity.

Radical Carboxylative Cyclizations and Carboxylations with CO2

Jian-Heng Ye et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide is a valuable carbon resource in organic synthesis, but its utilization is challenging due to stability and inertness. Researchers have developed radical-type carboxylations and cyclizations using visible-light photoredox catalysis and copper catalysis. These strategies have expanded the scope of CO2 transformations and provided new methods for selective organic synthesis.

Highly Selective CO2 Electroreduction to C2H4 Using a Metal-Organic Framework with Dual Active Sites

Xiao-Feng Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework (PcCu-Cu-O) was reported as an electrocatalyst for converting CO2 to C2H4, showing higher efficiency compared to discrete molecular copper-phthalocyanine. In-situ infrared spectroscopy and control experiments indicated that the synergistic effect between the CuPc unit and the CuO4 unit contributes to lowering the energy barrier for C-C dimerization.

Single Metal-Organic Cage Decorated with an Ir(III) Complex for CO2 Photoreduction

Xiangjuan Qi et al.

Summary: A novel single molecular cage of Ir(III) complex-decorated Zr-MOC has been proposed for CO2 photoreduction, showing high reactivity, selectivity, and apparent quantum yield. The catalytic center is the Ir(III) complex, while the -NH2 in the framework plays a synergetic role in stabilizing the transition state and CO2 adducts, leading to superior performance compared to classical metal-organic framework counterparts.
