Computational Understanding of Dual Gold and Photoredox- Catalyzed Regioselective Thiosulfonylation of Alkenes

Kaifeng Wang et al.

Summary: A computational study was conducted to investigate the mechanistic details of the regioselective thiosulfonylation of alkenes using a dual gold and photoredox catalysis. The results suggest that the complex of Au(I) with PhSO2SCF3 plays a crucial role in quenching the excited photocatalyst and generating the necessary intermediate species for the reaction. The proposed catalytic cycle involves a series of single-electron transfer reactions between Au(I) and [Ru]III, ultimately leading to the formation of the desired product.

o-Silylaryl Triflates: A Journey of Kobayashi Aryne Precursors

Jiarong Shi et al.

Summary: Arynes are highly active organic intermediates used in the rapid synthesis of substituted arenes, with o-silylaryl triflates being the most frequently employed precursors. The resurgence in aryne chemistry over the past 20 years is largely attributed to the widespread use of Kobayashi's method, which involves fluoride-induced removal of the TMS group with concomitant departure of its ortho OTf group. This review provides an overview of the history, achievements, and applications of Kobayashi's method in the synthesis of natural products, bioactive molecules, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

The interplay of carbophilic activation and Au(i)/Au(iii) catalysis: an emerging technique for 1,2-difunctionalization of C-C multiple bonds

Vivek W. Bhoyare et al.

Summary: Gold complexes are favored catalysts for functionalization reactions of C-C multiple bonds due to their carbophilic nature, and efforts to achieve less accessible cross-coupling reactivity have led to the development of Au(i)/Au(iii) redox cycle. The interplay of carbophilic activation and Au(i)/Au(iii) catalysis in gold catalysis has allowed the development of a novel mechanistic paradigm for 1,2-difunctionalization reactions of various C-C multiple bonds.
