Molecular Engineering for Shortening the Pt•••Pt Distances in Pt(II) Dinuclear Complexes and Enhancing the Efficiencies of these Complexes for Application in Deep-Red and Near-IR OLEDs

Palanisamy Rajakannu et al.

Summary: In this study, phenylpyridazine-based bidentate ligands were synthesized and used for the preparation of dinuclear Pt(II) complexes. The complexes exhibited intense emissions in the NIR region, high photoluminescence quantum yields, and short phosphorescence decay lifetimes. The functional groups or atoms in the ligands played crucial roles in the formation of emitters with significantly shortened Pt center dot center dot center dot Pt distances. The resulting non-doped NIR OLEDs showed good electroluminescence performance.

Linear, two- and four-armed pyridine-decorated thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole fluorophores: Synthesis, photophysical study and computational investigation

Abdelaziz Jouaiti et al.

Summary: A novel family of TzTz fluorophores with alkylpyridine substituents of different lengths was investigated for their optical properties. The compounds displayed strong absorption and emission characteristics, with the core structure playing a major role in the emission. The positional isomerism and protonation of the peripheral pyridines further modulated the photophysical properties.

Bulky and Stable Copper(I)-Phenanthroline Complex: Impact of Steric Strain and Symmetry on the Excited-State Properties

Lea Gimeno et al.

Summary: This study explores the fine-tuning of steric strain to achieve a balance between high emission quantum yield and stability. The investigation involves designing and characterizing a non-symmetrical ligand and its corresponding copper(I) complex. The results demonstrate that despite the steric strain, the obtained complex is more stable and exhibits unique behavior in the excited state.

Trigonal Copper(I) Complexes with Cyclic (Alkyl)(amino)carbene Ligands for Single-Photon Near-IR Triplet Emission

Andre M. T. Muthig et al.

Summary: This study investigates the photophysical properties of a series of trigonal Cu(I)CAAC complexes and demonstrates their weak absorption in the near-infrared region and dominant phosphorescence in the solid state. These complexes exhibit a red-shifted emission compared to structurally related linearly coordinated copper(I) CAAC complexes, and a specific complex shows potential as a non-classical single-photon light source.

Deep-red light-emitting electrochemical cells based on phosphor-sensitized thermally activated delayed fluorescence

Yin Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates efficient solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) using phosphor-sensitized thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) technology. The results show that by promoting intramolecular singlet-to-triplet energy transfer and effective reverse intersystem crossing (RISC), the energy transfer efficiency between the host and guest can be increased, leading to higher luminous efficiency.

The role of dinuclearity in promoting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) in cyclometallated, N∧C∧N-coordinated platinum(ii) complexes

Piotr Pander et al.

Summary: Through synthesis and analysis, we have discovered a di-Pt(ii) complex that exhibits dual luminescent behavior and activates thermally activated delayed fluorescence. Compared with the mono-Pt(ii) analogue, the di-Pt(ii) complex has a larger singlet radiative rate constant, a smaller singlet-triplet energy gap, and a longer phosphorescence decay lifetime. This bimetallic structure promotes conditions favorable for TADF, showcasing high efficiency in emitting near infrared electroluminescence.
