Colorimetric paper-based sarcosine assay with improved sensitivity

Summary: This study presents a paper-based bienzymatic colorimetric assay for detecting sarcosine, an important urinary biomarker of prostate cancer, achieving a lower limit of detection and higher selectivity. The presence of polymer was found to restrict the enzyme-driven colorimetric reaction, leading to stronger color development.

Portable smartphone-based colorimetric system for simultaneous on-site microfluidic paper-based determination and mapping of phosphate, nitrite and silicate in coastal waters

Summary: This paper describes a method combining microfluidic paper-based sensors and an Android-based smartphone application for on-site quantification of phosphate, silicate, and nitrite in coastal seawater. The developed application can capture, process, and quantify the colorimetric outputs of the sensors, and store or share the GPS-tagged data. The method showed wide linear ranges and low limits of detection under optimized parameters.
