Growth of Robust Carbon Nitride Films by Double Crystallization with Exceptionally Boosted Electrochemiluminescence for Visual DNA Detection

Yuhua Hou et al.

Summary: This study reports a highly stable carbon nitride film with an unusually enhanced electrochemically generated chemiluminescence (ECL) efficiency, which is 2256 times higher than that of the reference Ru(bpy)(3)Cl-2/K2S2O8. Double crystallization plays a crucial role in the preparation. The improved ECL efficiency is attributed to the suppression of futile co-reagent reduction by little pinholes, the maintenance of more orbit-delocalized heptazine subunits to improve ECL kinetics, and the high transparency of the film to avoid self-absorption. Furthermore, an ultrasensitive visual DNA biosensor by the naked eye is successfully developed with a linear detection range of 100 pm to 1 μm and a limit of detection of 27 pm (S/N = 3).

Kaiqing Wu et al.

Summary: By using time-dependent electrochemiluminescence (Td-ECL) technique, we have successfully obtained the time and spatial distribution of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the diffusion layer, and discovered multiple ultrasensitive stoichiometric reactions between ROS and the ECL emitter. This finding can guide the development of electrocatalysts for fuel cells and H2O2 production with maximized activity and durability.

N-heterocyclic Ir(III) complex targeting G-quadruplex structure to boost label-free and immobilization-free electrochemiluminescent sensing

Hongjie Qi et al.

Summary: Development of simple, low-cost and highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensors for various targets is urgent but remains challenging. Here, an iridium (III) complex (Ir-ECL) was synthesized and applied for improved target sensing. Ir-ECL exhibited ECL emission wavelength at 590 nm and showed superior intercalation ability into G-quadruplex DNA. Using these properties, Ir-ECL was applied to enzyme-free, label-free, sensitive and homogeneous ECL analysis of pesticide acetamiprid (Ace) based on aptamer-target recognition-driven hybridization chain reaction (HCR), resulting in improved Ace ECL sensing.

Novel Au-tetrahedral aptamer nanostructure for the electrochemiluminescence detection of acetamiprid

Yemin Guo et al.

Summary: An ultrasensitive and selective electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor with Au-tetrahedral aptamer nanostructure (Au-TAN) was developed for acetamiprid detection. By optimizing the pH of the buffer solution, the concentration of H2O2, and the concentration of Au-TAN, a detection limit lower than other sensors was achieved. The weak alkaline environment explored in the experiment further expanded the application range of the sensor, showing high accuracy and sensitivity.

Facile Encapsulation of Iridium(III) Complexes in Apoferritin Nanocages as Promising Electrochemiluminescence Nanodots for Immunoassays

Lei Yang et al.

Summary: Water-soluble electrochemiluminescence (ECL) nanodots were prepared by encapsulating ECL-active iridium complexes in biocompatible horse spleen apoferritin (apoHSF) nanocages for immunoassays. The ECL efficiency of the nanodots could be optimized by investigating the electrochemistry and oxidative-reductive ECL mechanisms with the use of tri-npropylamine (TPrA) as a coreactant. The well-inherited biological functions of apoHSF allowed for the convenient external modification of an antibody to establish a versatile ECL immunoassay paradigm, enabling rapid and accurate detection of biomarkers in real samples.
