SERS liquid biopsy in breast cancer. What can we learn from SERS on serum and urine?

Stefania D. Iancu et al.

Summary: SERS analysis coupled with classification algorithms is a promising candidate for point-of-care medical diagnosis. However, there are still gaps in our understanding of the biochemical information provided by SERS analysis of biofluids. This study provides a systematic analysis of the molecular information obtained from SERS analysis of serum and urine samples from breast cancer patients and controls, and compares the performance of different machine learning algorithms for sample classification.

SERS Liquid Biopsy Profiling of Serum for the Diagnosis of Kidney Cancer

Tudor Moisoiu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) profiling of serum as a liquid biopsy strategy for detecting renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The SERS analysis successfully distinguished RCC patients from controls and suggests the usefulness of SERS as a diagnostic and screening tool for RCC.

Establishment of a reliable scheme for obtaining highly stable SERS signal of biological serum

Hongmei Li et al.

Summary: SERS technology, combining serum SERS spectrum analysis and multivariate statistical algorithms, is widely used in disease screening and diagnosis. Experimental results show that high reproducibility and stability of SERS spectrum can only be achieved when serum is diluted to low concentration. By using high-performance gold nanoparticles as the active substrate of SERS, a test scheme for obtaining highly stable serum SERS spectra was established.

Non-invasive SERS serum detection technology combined with multivariate statistical algorithm for simultaneous screening of cervical cancer and breast cancer

Ningning Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, high-performance gold nanoparticles/785 porous silicon photonic crystals (Au NPs/785 PSi PhCs) active SERS substrates were designed for sensitive serum detection in healthy individuals, cervical cancer patients, and breast cancer patients. The significant spectral differences between healthy and cancer groups were analyzed, and the serum SERS spectra of cervical cancer and breast cancer patients were compared. The diagnostic models based on spectral differences and multivariate statistical algorithms achieved high screening accuracy for synchronous classification and detection of the three groups of serum.
