Nanozyme-catalysed CRISPR assay for preamplification-free detection of non-coding RNAs

Marta Broto et al.

Summary: This study combines CRISPR-Cas reaction with nanozyme-linked ELISA to achieve quantitative detection of Cas13-mediated RNA detection through catalytic metallic nanoparticles at room temperature (CrisprZyme). The study shows that CrisprZyme is adaptable to lateral flow reading and different Cas enzymes, and can detect various non-coding RNAs. The platform can be used to identify disease patients and monitor cellular differentiation. CrisprZyme can serve as a universally applicable signal catalyst for CRISPR-based diagnostics, expanding the target range of preamplification-free, quantitative detection.

Selection of antibiotic resistance genes on biodegradable and non-biodegradable microplastics

Yuanze Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigates the presence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) on both biodegradable and non-biodegradable microplastics in a coastal lagoon. The results show that while there were no significant differences in ARG abundance and diversity between the two types of plastics, non-biodegradable PET had a higher abundance of multidrug resistance genes. Host-tracking analysis revealed that different bacterial hosts were responsible for different types of resistance genes on the microplastics.

Liposome-mediated detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA-positive extracellular vesicles in plasma

Bo Ning et al.

Summary: Measuring circulating SARS-CoV-2 RNA in plasma may offer a more accurate way to detect lower respiratory tract and extrapulmonary infections missed by traditional COVID-19 detection methods. The study demonstrates the use of a CRISPR-Cas-based strategy to detect SARS-CoV-2 RNA in plasma-circulating extracellular vesicles, showing promising characteristics for clinical applications. Plasma SARS-CoV-2 RNA could be a viable diagnostic alternative to respiratory RNA levels, especially as respiratory RNA rapidly declines after infection.
