Metal-Organic Frameworks Encapsulating Carbon Dots Enable Fast Speciation of Mono- and Divalent Copper

By conjugating carbon dots (CDs) with Eu-based metal-organic frameworks (Eu-MOFs), the obtained Eu-MOFs@CD nanoprobe enables fast and accurate detection of copper species in biological matrixes.

Structure, morphology and reversible hysteresis nature of human serum albumin (HSA) monolayer on water surface

Summary: The study investigated the compression-decompression behavior of human serum albumin monolayer on a water surface under different subphase pH conditions. It was found that hysteresis occurred between the compression and decompression curves, leading to modification of monolayer behavior on the water surface. The interactions between molecules were influenced by the subphase pH and local surface charge, resulting in electrostatic repulsion dominating over van der Waals attraction in certain conditions.

Elimination of the non-spectral matrix interferences in the analysis of bio-liquids by mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma

Summary: The impact of nitric acid, inorganic salts, and organic compounds on the analytical signals in mass spectrometry analysis of whole blood, serum, and urine has been studied. Non-spectral interferences were found to affect analytes with ionization potentials above 9.0 eV the most, and strategies for their elimination through tuning of the instrumental parameters and selection of internal standards were established. Two approaches were identified for eliminating non-spectral interferences, each with its own advantages in terms of sensitivity and flexibility. These strategies were demonstrated to be efficient in the analysis of standard reference materials and bio-liquids of patients suffering from different forms of SIRS. Concentrations of Cu and Zn were highlighted as diagnostically important features.

Analytical potential of total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry for simultaneous determination of iron, copper and zinc in human blood serum and plasma
