Pulmonary hypertension is associated with poor cardiovascular and hematologic outcomes in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms and cardiovascular disease

Orly Leiva et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular events and hematologic progression are major causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms. This study investigates the impact of pulmonary hypertension on mortality and disease progression in these patients, finding that pulmonary hypertension is associated with increased risk of death and hematologic progression.

Summary: This study aims to report the surgical experience of pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) in the era of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) multimodal management. The results showed that the multimodal therapy approach did not affect the effectiveness of PEA. Medical therapy and balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) may synergize with surgery to treat more challenging CTEPH patients.

BCR-ABL1-Negative Chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasms and Pulmonary Hypertension: A Prospective Long-Term Follow-up Study of the Impact of Pulmonary Hypertension on Survival

Kadriye Bahriye Payzin et al.

Summary: This prospective study assessed the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension (PHT) related to chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (CMPNs) and found a low incidence of PHT in BCR-ABL1-negative CMPN patients. The impact of PHT on survival was negligible, possibly due to asymptomatic or mild PHT in patients.

Prevalence and risk factors for Pulmonary Hypertension associated with chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasms

Alberto Ferrari et al.

Summary: The prevalence and risk factors of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) remain unclear. A systematic review and meta-analysis identified myelofibrosis (MF) and longer MPN duration as significant risk factors for the development of PH, with studies predominantly using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) showing higher prevalence estimates compared to those using right heart catheterization (RHC).
