The predictive value of clinical, radiographic, echocardiographic variables and cardiac biomarkers for assessing risk of the onset of heart failure or cardiac death in dogs with preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease enrolled in the DELAY study

M. Borgarelli et al.

Summary: Clinical, radiographic, echocardiographic variables and plasma cardiac biomarkers like NT-proBNP can help predict the risk of heart failure or cardiac death in dogs with preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease. In particular, specific measurements like left atrial to aortic root ratio, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter, E peak velocity, and NT-proBNP concentration can indicate increased risk. Adjusting NT-proBNP concentrations for other variables provides a more accurate prediction model.
