Barriers to, and Facilitators of, Exercising in Fitness Centres among Adults with and without Physical Disabilities: A Scoping Review

Helene Nikolajsen et al.

Summary: Fitness centres lack representation of adults with physical disabilities, with limited research focusing on this group. While physical barriers are a main concern for adults with physical disabilities, facilitators are more prominent for adults without physical disabilities. Both groups share similar preferences for skilled instructors, comfortable environments, and social connections in fitness centres. Additional research on the experiences of adults with physical disabilities is needed to better understand motivational factors for fitness centre use.

Motivating Adherence to Exercise Plans Through a Personalized Mobile Health App: Enhanced Action Design Research Approach

Ruo-Ting Sun et al.

Summary: The study showed significant main effects of personality type and repetition, with emotional messages being more effective than logical ones in motivating exercise adherence. Regular reminders significantly improved adherence rates for those with thinking personality types. Incorporating field experiments into the design process can help enhance the effectiveness of mHealth apps.
