Evaluation of corneal and lens densitometry with Pentacam HR in children with Nephrotic Syndrome: A controlled, prospective study

Ayse Tufekci Balikci et al.

Summary: This study compared corneal and lens densitometry values between children with Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) and healthy individuals, finding significant differences in the anterior cornea and central area. Correlations were also found between the cumulative steroid dose, number of attacks, disease duration, and densitometry values.

Corneal densitometry in patients with arcus senilis and its correlation with serum lipid levels

Yusuf Cem Yilmaz et al.

Summary: This study evaluated corneal densitometry (CD) and its association with serum lipid markers in patients with arcus senilis (AS). The CD values in both the peripheral and paracentral zones of the cornea were found to increase in AS patients compared to the healthy controls. There was a significant positive correlation between serum triglyceride levels and CD values in the outermost zone. Serum HDL levels were decreased in patients with AS.

Effects of diabetes duration and HgA1C level on corneal endothelial morphology

Salih Colak et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of HbA1c levels and diabetes duration on corneal endothelium morphology in diabetic patients with and without retinopathy. The results showed significant differences in endothelial cell density, coefficient of variation, and standard deviation between diabetes patients and healthy individuals. Additionally, there was a negative correlation between HbA1c levels and diabetes duration with endothelial cell density, and differences were found between non-proliferative and proliferative retinopathy patients in endothelial cell density and standard deviation values.

Neurotrophic Keratopathy: Ophthalmology's Diabetic Foot Problem

Todd P. Margolis

Summary: Neurotrophic keratopathy should be treated as a chronic condition managed best through prevention. While lid closure or tear deficiency may complicate the condition, most patients do not require exogenous lubrication. The use of topical agents in these cases can lead to iatrogenic injury and poor outcomes, due to poor wound healing and delays in seeking medical care.

Evaluation of anterior segment parameters with Pentacam in children with poorly-controlled type 1 Diabetes Mellitus without diabetic retinopathy

Mine Karahan et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of abnormal glucose metabolism on the cornea, lens, anterior chamber volume, and anterior chamber depth in children with poorly-controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus. The results showed significant differences between the diabetes group and the control group in terms of corneal thickness, corneal volume, anterior chamber depth, and lens density. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between glycosylated hemoglobin levels and lens density, corneal thickness, and other parameters in patients with diabetes.

The effect of diabetes on corneal endothelium: a meta-analysis

Kaikai Zhang et al.

Summary: The research revealed that diabetes mellitus has a negative impact on corneal endothelial cells, leading to a decrease in cell density and hexagonal percentage, as well as an increase in cell area variation coefficient. There were no significant differences in the mean cell area. Type 2 diabetes patients showed a lower corneal endothelial cell density compared to other groups. Additionally, publication bias was observed in the studies, especially in terms of combined variance and hexagonal cell percentage.
