A narrative review of molecular mechanism and therapeutic effect of cannabidiol (CBD)

Jiangling Peng et al.

Summary: CBD, an abundant non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid in cannabis extracts, has multiple therapeutic effects and potential applications in human diseases such as neuroprotection, antiepileptic, and anxiolytic properties. This narrative review summarizes the applications of CBD in human diseases from mechanism of action to clinical trials.

Effects of Combining Alcohol and Cannabis on Driving, Breath Alcohol Level, Blood THC, Cognition, and Subjective Effects: A Narrative Review

Andrew Fares et al.

Summary: This article reviews the laboratory studies on the combined effects of alcohol and cannabis on driving skills, cognition, and subjective effects. The evidence suggests that the simultaneous use of these two drugs produces additive effects, but the impact on breath alcohol levels or blood THC due to co-use is inconclusive.

Summary: Multiple large randomized controlled trials have confirmed the efficacy and safety of dual orexin receptor antagonists (DORAs) for primary insomnia. Although there have been few systematic comparisons of different DORAs, it is generally believed that DORAs are superior to placebos in terms of efficacy and safety.

Posttraumatic stress disorder, sleep and medical cannabis treatment: A daily diary study

Sharon R. Sznitman et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between the use of Medical Cannabis (MC) and sleep disturbances in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients. The results show that a shorter time gap between MC use and sleep onset is associated with a lower likelihood of experiencing nightmares throughout the night. However, it is not associated with nightly awakenings or waking up too early. Individuals who used MC products with higher CBD concentrations reported fewer early awakenings.

Role of Cannabidiol for Improvement of the Quality of Life in Cancer Patients: Potential and Challenges

Summary: There is a growing interest in using cannabidiol (CBD) to alleviate cancer symptoms, including pain, sleep disruption, and anxiety. However, the mechanisms underlying CBD's anti-cancer activity remain unclear. In vitro studies have shown that CBD has anti-tumor properties, and clinical trials have demonstrated its effectiveness in treating cancer-related pain. Further research is needed to determine the optimal dosage and effective combinations with other drugs.

Summary: This study found that the CBD group had lower alcohol consumption, fewer alcohol use days, and fewer days of alcohol and cannabis co-use compared to the other groups, while no significant differences were observed between the THC group and the CBD + THC group. This suggests that CBD may be associated with decreased alcohol consumption.
