Reducing agriculture irrigation water consumption through reshaping cropping systems across China

Lichang Yin et al.

Summary: This study quantified the unit irrigation water consumption and total irrigation water consumption of major cropping systems in China, and estimated the potential for reducing total irrigation water consumption by optimizing the cultivated areas of different cropping systems. The findings suggest that optimizing cropping systems by adjusting cultivation areas can significantly reduce total irrigation water consumption at both national and regional levels.

Regional water-saving potential calculation method for paddy rice based on remote sensing

Jun Wei et al.

Summary: A calculation method based on remote sensing (RWSP-RS) was proposed to improve the calculation applicability and operability of regional water-saving potential (RWSP) for paddy rice. The method was applied in the Zhanghe Irrigation District and showed high precision and applicability, saving time and labor costs, and contributing to regional water resource management.

Improvement of water saving and economic productivity based on quotation with sugar content of sugar beet using linear move sprinkler irrigation

Demet Uygan et al.

Summary: The study in Western Central Anatolia Region of Turkey showed that using linear move sprinkler system (LMSS) can improve water saving and economic productivity. Irrigating sugar beet with LMSS in intervals of 7-10 days and applying 45-65 mm water for each irrigation cycle could lead to high profitability with significant water savings.

Water footprints of irrigated crop production and meteorological driving factors at multiple temporal scales

Jie Gao et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the water footprint of maize and wheat production in the Baojixia Irrigation District, revealing the feasibility of applying the method to hydrological simulation of irrigated areas without drainage systems. Blue water footprints of maize and wheat production accounted for 34% and 36% of irrigation water supplies, with precipitation having the greatest impact on maize and sunshine hours/temperature on wheat.
