A monthly distributed agro-hydrological model for irrigation district in arid region with shallow groundwater table

Yeqiang Wen et al.

Summary: This study developed a monthly distributed agrohydrological model (DAHMID) based on remote sensing and groundwater depth measurements for studying agro-hydrological processes in arid irrigation districts. The results showed that interior drainage plays an important role in the climate processes of arid irrigation districts, and evapotranspiration is the major water consumption. Irrigation has a significant impact on soil water and groundwater depth.

Effect of long-term saline mulched drip irrigation on soil-groundwater environment in arid Northwest China

Zaimin Wang et al.

Summary: Water shortage and soil salinization are major constraints to sustainable agriculture in arid and semi-arid regions. This study investigates the impacts of long-term mulched drip irrigation with brackish groundwater on soil and groundwater environments. The results show that groundwater level decline reduces evaporation and groundwater recharge, while soil moisture content and salinity are strongly influenced by groundwater depth.
