Compressive Behavior of GFRP Tubes Filled with Self-Compacting Concrete

Pan Xie et al.

Summary: Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is suitable for application in hybrid FRP-concrete-steel double-skin tubular columns (DSTCs) due to its excellent flow ability. However, the large shrinkage of SCC compared to traditional concrete poses challenges to the integrity and composite action of DSTCs.

Behavior of large-scale hybrid FRP-concrete-steel double-skin tubular columns subjected to eccentric compression

Tao Jiang et al.

Summary: Hybrid FRP-concrete-steel double-skin tubular columns exhibit excellent mechanical performance and durability. This study investigates the behavior of these columns under eccentric compression, and finds that they display highly ductile behavior. A theoretical column model incorporating stress-strain models accurately predicts the axial load-carrying capacities of the columns.

Dynamic Responses of Blast-Loaded Shallow Buried Concrete Arches Strengthened with BFRP Bars

Jianqin Wu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method of using prefabricated basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bars to reinforce a concrete arch structure, which demonstrates superior performance in protection engineering. Through numerical analysis and field experiments, the advantages of BFRP bars in anti-blast performance are verified, showing significant improvement in the dynamic response of blast-loaded arch structures. Results indicate that BFRP bars effectively reduce the damage level of shallow-buried protective arch structures under explosive loads, providing a feasible solution for constructing shallow buried concrete protective arch structures, particularly in coastal environments.

A comparative study of the flexural performance of hybrid-reinforced (glass fiber reinforced polymer and steel bars) concrete beams before and after exposure to chloride environment

Chunhua Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flexural performance of hybrid-reinforced concrete (HRC) beams before and after exposure to chloride environment. A calculation model for the flexural capacity of HRC beams after exposure to chloride environment is proposed and validated. The results show that the deflection of unconditioned HRC beams is higher than that of unconditioned steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) beams but lower than that of conditioned HRC beams exposed to chloride environment. Additionally, the flexural capacity of conditioned HRC beams decreases due to exposure.

Tara Habibi et al.

Summary: This study explores the application limits of composites for permanent large-scale bending-active structures by systematically evaluating the effects of influential geometrical and material parameters. The results demonstrate that increasing material stiffness and creep-rupture stress limit can further enhance the span, applicable live load, and material use.

Chengjie Zhao et al.

Summary: The study compared the anti-blast performance of concrete arches reinforced by steel bars and BFRP-steel bars through experiments. Results showed that BFRP-steel bars reinforced arches exhibited higher load-bearing capacity and greater safety redundancy, with the ability to inhibit concrete cracks to a certain extent.

Axial monotonic and cyclic compressive behavior of square GFRP tube-confined steel-reinforced concrete composite columns

Weichang Pei et al.

Summary: The study investigated the axial compression behavior of steel fiber-reinforced concrete columns through fabrication and testing of specimens. Results showed higher ductility and load capacity compared to fiber-reinforced plastic-confined plain concrete columns. Two quantitative indexes were proposed to measure the confinement of steel fiber-reinforced concretes.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of steel corrosion on the seismic vulnerability of RC bridge structures and proposes an improved time-dependent seismic fragility framework. Through analyzing the exceedance probability curves of deteriorating RC bridge structures, it is found that there is a nonlinear increase in the exceedance probability for different damage states during the service life.

Lulu Liu et al.

Summary: An experimental investigation was conducted on the load-bearing behavior and ductility of FRP hybrid double-lap joints composed of both adhesively-bonded and bolted connection parts. The hybrid joints with flexible adhesive showed improved ultimate failure loads without compromising deformation capacity. Joints with multidirectional adherends and flexible adhesive exhibited high joint efficiencies and excellent ductility, potentially increasing the overall safety of engineering structures composed of brittle FRP members.

Manufacturing Technologies of Carbon/Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites and Their Properties: A Review

Dipen Kumar Rajak et al.

Summary: The study of lightweight composite materials, particularly glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) and carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites, has gained significant interest in recent years due to their tailorable properties and unique characteristics. While past research mainly focused on specific aspects, there is now a more detailed classification of GFs and CFs, their basic properties, as well as a comprehensive overview of manufacturing techniques, advantages, limitations, and future trends. This review also summarizes the main properties and applications of GFRP and CFRP composites, providing a solid database for further understanding and modeling their behavior.
