3D-0D closed-loop model for the simulation of cardiac biventricular electromechanics

Roberto Piersanti et al.

Summary: Two crucial factors for accurate numerical simulations of cardiac electromechanics are addressed in this study: accounting for the interaction between the heart and the circulatory system, and reconstructing the muscular fiber architecture. The proposed 3D biventricular electromechanical model coupled with a 0D closed-loop model of the whole cardiovascular system successfully addresses these factors and produces results that match experimental data.

Model order reduction of flow based on a modular geometrical approximation of blood vessels

Luca Pegolotti et al.

Summary: This study focuses on a reduced order method for efficiently simulating blood flow in arteries. By approximating domain decomposition of the target geometry and constructing spectral functions through Proper Orthogonal Decomposition, significant speedups in solving the linear system within the Newton-Raphson algorithm can be achieved while maintaining satisfactory simulation accuracy for most cardiovascular simulations.

POD-Enhanced Deep Learning-Based Reduced Order Models for the Real-Time Simulation of Cardiac Electrophysiology in the Left Atrium

Stefania Fresca et al.

Summary: In this study, a new generation of non-intrusive, nonlinear ROMs based on deep learning algorithms showed promise in accurately and rapidly capturing complex front propagation processes in cardiac electrophysiology. Training costs were high, but incorporating randomized proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) for prior dimensionality reduction helped speed up training times and decrease network complexity, leading to efficient real-time solutions for physiological and pathological cardiac EP problems.
