Remotely controlled near-infrared-triggered photothermal treatment of brain tumours in freely behaving mice using gold nanostars

Hamed Arami et al.

Summary: In this study, a wireless near-infrared stimulation-based photothermal approach for the continuous and on-demand treatment of brain tumours in freely moving animals is presented. The method avoids the risks and side-effects associated with open-skull tumour resection and chemotherapy or X-ray radiation. It utilizes an integrated nanomedicine-bioelectronics brain-machine interface, allowing precise treatment of deep brain tumours and selective diffusion of treatment in tumour tissues.

Endothelial deletion of SHP2 suppresses tumor angiogenesis and promotes vascular normalization

Zhiyong Xu et al.

Summary: The deletion of SHP2 in endothelial cells impairs tumor growth and angiogenesis through the ASK1-c-Jun-SOX7 signaling axis, leading to vascular normalization in tumors. This suggests that targeting SHP2 in tumor-associated endothelial cells could be a promising anti-angiogenic strategy for cancer therapy.

Taking phototherapeutics from concept to clinical launch

Brianna M. Vickerman et al.

Summary: More than four decades have passed since the first example of a light-activated (caged) compound was described. In recent years, there have been advancements in phototherapeutics that are photoresponsive in the optical window of tissue (600-900 nm), offering new clinical opportunities for precision dosing and targeted drug delivery. This Review discusses the current scope and limitations, path to the clinic, and therapeutic applications of long-wavelength-responsive, light-activated drugs.

Refractoriness of STING therapy is relieved by AKT inhibitor through effective vascular disruption in tumour

Seung-hwan Jeong et al.

Summary: STING agonists have been shown to induce early apoptosis of endothelial cells in subcutaneous xenografts models, while additional inhibition of AKT is required for efficient induction of apoptosis in primary tumors. This study proposes a more advanced avenue for treating primary tumors that are refractory to single STING agonist therapy.
