Efficient electrosynthesis of n-propanol from carbon monoxide using a Ag-Ru-Cu catalyst

Xue Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports the development of catalysts that improve the electrosynthesis of n-propanol from CO2/CO electroreduction. The catalysts facilitate carbon-carbon coupling, stabilize intermediates, and promote CO adsorption, leading to enhanced selectivity and stability. The optimal electrocatalyst, based on silver-ruthenium co-doped copper, achieves high Faradaic efficiency and single-pass CO conversion, demonstrating the potential for profitable production of n-propanol.

A Two-Dimensional van der Waals Heterostructure with Isolated Electron-Deficient Cobalt Sites toward High-Efficiency CO2 Electroreduction

Huoliang Gu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of an ultrathin conjugated metalloporphyrin covalent organic framework grown on graphene as a two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructure for CO2 reduction. The strong interlayer coupling enhances the catalytic efficiency by accelerating the kinetics of CO2 conversion. The results highlight the importance of strong electronic coupling between van der Waals layers in accelerating CO2 conversion dynamics.

High-performance CoII-phthalocyanine-based polymer for practical heterogeneous electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide

Jirapong Luangchaiyaporn et al.

Summary: A new bithiophenyl-substituted Co-II-phthalocyanine was synthesized and electropolymerized to obtain polymer films for CO2 reduction. The polymer showed high efficiency and stability in producing CO with a Faradaic efficiency of 94% in a control potential electrolysis for 2 hours. The study suggests a metalcentered mechanism for the CO2 reduction process.

Highly Selective CO2 Electroreduction to C2H4 Using a Metal-Organic Framework with Dual Active Sites

Xiao-Feng Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework (PcCu-Cu-O) was reported as an electrocatalyst for converting CO2 to C2H4, showing higher efficiency compared to discrete molecular copper-phthalocyanine. In-situ infrared spectroscopy and control experiments indicated that the synergistic effect between the CuPc unit and the CuO4 unit contributes to lowering the energy barrier for C-C dimerization.

Gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) for electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and dinitrogen to value-added products: a review

Hesamoddin Rabiee et al.

Summary: Electrochemical reduction of gaseous feeds such as CO2, CO, and N-2 holds promise for sustainable energy and chemical production. Gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) maintain a high gas concentration in the vicinity of the catalyst and improve mass transport, resulting in higher current densities. However, challenges exist in tuning product selectivity and reaction stability in the GDE environment, requiring further research and development of solutions.

Electropolymerized metal-protoporphyrin electrodes for selective electrochemical reduction of CO2

Nael G. Yasri et al.

Summary: Developing efficient catalysts for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is crucial for environmental health and practical energy waste conversion. In this study, electrochemically polymerized Co-PPIX and Cu-PPIX catalysts showed superior performance over their monomeric forms, with Co-PPIX selectively producing CO and Cu-PPIX generating mixed gases. The electropolymerized Co-PPIX exhibited a maximum faradaic efficiency of 94% at -1.32 V-RHE for CO production, with a high turnover frequency and current density.
