Observation of a linked-loop quantum state in a topological magnet

Ilya Belopolski et al.

Summary: Topological invariants play a central role in classifying quantum phases and describing various phenomena in matter. In this study, an unusual linking-number invariant associated with loops of electronic band crossings in a mirror-symmetric ferromagnet is observed. The experiment confirms the invariant structure and discovers related boundary states on the sample surface. This finding motivates further exploration of magnetic and superconducting quantum matter using knot theory.

Topological magnon band structure of emergent Landau levels in a skyrmion lattice

T. Weber et al.

Summary: The study found that the motion of a spin excitation in materials with nontrivial magnetic order is deflected, similar to the effect of the Lorentz force on a charged particle in an orbital magnetic field. By using neutron scattering, researchers investigated the propagation of magnons in a lattice of skyrmion tubes in manganese silicide and discovered a topological magnon band structure in reciprocal space.

Field-Driven Dynamics of Magnetic Hopfions

David Raftrey et al.

Summary: Micromagnetic simulations of resonant spin wave modes in magnetic Hopfions up to 15 GHz revealed characteristic amplitudes and unique localization patterns, showing robustness around topological features. The differences in spin wave spectra between Hopfions, torons, and skyrmions can serve as fingerprints for future experimental validation studies of these novel 3D topological spin textures.

Creation and observation of Hopfions in magnetic multilayer systems

Noah Kent et al.

Summary: This study presents experimental evidence for the appearance of Hopfions, topological solitons defined by a Hopf number, in a magnetic system. Three-dimensional spin textures distinguishing Hopfions from target skyrmions are characterized by magnetic images recorded with surface-sensitive X-ray photoemission electron microscopy and bulk-sensitive soft X-ray transmission microscopy using element-specific X-ray magnetic circular dichroism effects.

Understanding Complex Magnetic Spin Textures with Simulation-Assisted Lorentz Transmission Electron Microscopy

Arthur R. C. McCray et al.

Summary: This study introduces the application of the PyLorentz open-source software suite for quantitative image analysis of Neel-type skyrmions in thin-film heterostructures. By enabling reconstruction of magnetic induction maps from experimental images and simulating LTEM images using micromagnetic simulation data, PyLorentz enhances the capabilities of Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. Simulation-assisted LTEM analysis is shown to be crucial for understanding complex magnetic spin textures.

Magnetic skyrmion bundles and their current-driven dynamics

Jin Tang et al.

Summary: Topological charge Q classifies non-trivial spin textures like skyrmions, merons, or vortices with absolute values smaller or equal to 1. Recently, multi-Q three-dimensional skyrmionic textures, known as skyrmion bundles, have been observed and studied for their current-driven dynamics.

Magnetic Skyrmion Materials

Yoshinori Tokura et al.

Summary: The concept of Skyrmion, originally proposed in particle physics, has found a fertile field for its applicability in magnetic skyrmions realized in helimagnetic materials. These magnetic topological defects show promising properties for future application in spintronics, with extraordinary metastability and low electric current excitation. The review also covers the emergence of other magnetic topological defects and their interplay with skyrmions.
