Ultrasound-Amplified Enzyodynamic Tumor Therapy by Perovskite Nanoenzyme-Enabled Cell Pyroptosis and Cascade Catalysis

Meiqi Chang et al.

Summary: This study developed an ultrasound-enhanced enzyme dynamic therapy to induce pyroptosis in breast cancer cells and achieve efficient treatment by increasing the rate of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. The perovskite nanocrystals used in this therapy possess multiple enzyme-like activities and can counteract apoptosis resistance through cascade reactions. Ultrasound stimulation promotes ROS production and facilitates the pyroptosis process through a specific signaling pathway. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirm the superiority of this method in anti-tumor treatment.

Guiding Transition Metal-Doped Hollow Cerium Tandem Nanozymes with Elaborately Regulated Multi-Enzymatic Activities for Intensive Chemodynamic Therapy

Shuming Dong et al.

Summary: The authors developed a hollow mesoporous Mn/Zr-co-doped CeO2 tandem nanozyme (PHMZCO-AT) with regulated multi-enzymatic activities to disrupt the H2O2 homeostasis, achieve intensive NCDT, and induce tumor apoptosis and death. The nanozyme catalyzes the conversion of superoxide anion into H2O2 in the tumor region and inhibits the off-target decomposition of H2O2. The elevated H2O2 is then converted into toxic hydroxyl radicals, leading to tumor cell death.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Cobalt Phosphate Nanocrystals: A Catalase-Like Nanozyme and In Situ Enzyme-Encapsulating Carrier for Efficient Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of α-Keto Acid

Zhenfu Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the catalase-like activity of cobalt phosphate nanocrystals (CoPs) and the fabrication of a hybrid nanobiocatalyst, LAAO@CoPs, for the chemoenzymatic synthesis of alpha-keto acid. The nanobiocatalyst shows high efficiency and stability, providing a new design approach for constructing high-performance nanobiocatalysts for cascade reactions, especially those involving toxic or reactive intermediates.

A novel pyroptosis-related gene signature predicts the prognosis of glioma through immune infiltration

Moxuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study established a risk model based on pyroptosis-related genes for predicting the survival risk of glioma patients. The risk score was found to be an independent factor predicting overall survival and was verified in a validation cohort. Analysis showed that high-risk glioma patients had significantly upregulated immune cell and pathway activities compared to low-risk patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Pyroptosis: a new paradigm of cell death for fighting against cancer

Yixin Tan et al.

Summary: Pyroptosis is an inflammatory form of cell death with tumor suppressive function and the ability to evoke anti-tumor immune responses. Cancer therapies induce pyroptosis, enhancing anti-tumor immunity, but also leading to side effects on normal cells.
