High performance of FeSiAl/hBN soft magnetic composites

J. L. Ni et al.

Summary: FeSiAl/hBN soft magnetic composites were prepared by mixing gas atomized FeSiAl powder and hexagonal BN through ball milling, forming nanoflakes that effectively block eddy currents among different metallic particles, leading to reduced eddy current loss. The composites showed relatively lower magnetic loss at higher frequencies compared to other FeSiAl composites.

Texture and anisotropy of hot-pressed h-BN matrix composite ceramics with in situ formed YAG

Zhuo Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, textured hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) matrix composite ceramics were prepared using different contents of sintering additive. The addition of 3Y(2)O(3)-5Al(2)O(3) as sintering additive led to the in situ formation of YAG liquid phase, which showed good wettability to h-BN grains. The resulting composite ceramics exhibited anisotropic mechanical and thermal properties due to the oriented microstructure with the c-axis of h-BN grains parallel to the sintering pressure direction.

Summary: This article presents the design of an integrated inductor for a highly compact embedded battery charger, using a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) buck converter to achieve high power density. A novel four-leg magnetic core structure is proposed as the integrated inductor. The optimal switching frequency is obtained through analysis and optimization, and a highly compact prototype is built with excellent peak efficiency and power density.

Cooperative grain boundary and phase boundary migration for the grain growth in NbC-based cemented carbides

Mathilde Labonne et al.

Summary: A simple model is proposed to analyze the effect of grain boundaries on grain growth in a system of solid particles in equilibrium with a liquid. The model combines existing models to consider grain boundary migration alongside dissolution-precipitation in the liquid. Experimental study shows that phase boundary and grain boundary migration are competitive in certain systems and a transition from a control by grain boundaries to a control by diffusion in the liquid is observed as grain growth proceeds.

Origin of coercivity in an anisotropic Sm(Fe,Ti,V)12-based sintered magnet

J. S. Zhang et al.

Summary: An anisotropic bulk SmFe12-based sintered magnet with high coercivity and remanence ratio has been successfully prepared using a conventional liquid sintering process. The magnet consists mainly of Sm(Fe,Ti,V,Al)(12) grains with a ThMn12-type crystal structure and a Sm-rich amorphous intergranular phase. Further research is needed to reduce grain size and engineer the intergranular phase composition to improve coercivity.

High-frequency MnZn soft magnetic ferrite by engineering grain boundaries with multiple-ion doping

Mi Yan et al.

Summary: A high-performance MnZn ferrite has been reported by doping multiple ions at grain boundaries, achieving optimized power loss and initial permeability at high frequencies, better than existing products. This improvement is attributed to the weakening of magnetic exchange coupling at grain boundaries and the transition from multi- to mono-domain structures.
