Compact Optical System Based on Scatterometry for Off-Line and Real-Time Monitoring of Surface Micropatterning Processes

Marcos Soldera et al.

Summary: This study validated a scatterometry-based monitoring system for tracking the quality and reproducibility of laser-textured surfaces in industrial environments. The system can accurately calculate spatial periods, detect focus shifts, and identify missing patterned lines, providing an effective tool for in-line monitoring of industrial laser-based micropatterning.

High throughput laser surface micro-structuring of polystyrene by combining direct laser interference patterning with polygon scanner technology

Fabian Raenke et al.

Summary: Laser-based processing techniques have been shown to be an effective option for modifying polymer surfaces. In this study, Direct Laser Interference Patterning combined with the polygon scanner technique was used to create textured polystyrene surfaces through ultra-fast beam deflection. The formation of line-like structures with a spatial period of 21.0 μm was achieved using a two-beam DLIP optical configuration. The scanning speed and repetition rate were found to influence the structure formation, with structure heights up to 23 μm. The formation of the micro-structure was attributed to swelling and ablation mechanisms. The method achieved a throughput of 1.1 m²/min for the first time by applying scanning speeds of 350 m/s.
