Phytoremediation of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) contaminated soils using alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.): A comprehensive review

Li Chen et al.

Summary: Soil contamination with potentially toxic elements is a serious environmental problem, and alfalfa has shown great potential for phytoremediation due to its biomass productivity and PTE tolerance. This review summarizes the literature on PTE uptake, tolerance mechanisms, and techniques to improve the efficiency of phytoremediation using alfalfa. It discusses the accumulation of PTEs in alfalfa, the inner mechanisms of PTE tolerance and accumulation, and the approaches to enhance PTE tolerance and accumulation.

Exogenous plant growth regulator alleviate the adverse effects of U and Cd stress in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and improve the efficacy of U and Cd remediation

Li Chen et al.

Summary: The study showed that exogenous PGRs can alleviate the combined stress of uranium and cadmium on sunflowers by stimulating photosynthesis, reducing levels of active oxygen and lipid peroxidation, and enhancing antioxidant defense systems. Additionally, PGRs can increase the uptake of uranium and cadmium by sunflowers, improving their remediation efficiency for uranium and cadmium contamination in the soil.
