Topological edge state analysis of hexagonal phononic crystals

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, valley phononic crystals were proposed and integrated into a topological insulator system to generate topologically protected edge waves. By tuning the difference in lengths of the ligaments in the chiral unit cells, a new complete band was opened up at the Dirac point. The existence of the valley Hall effect in chiral systems was also demonstrated.

Topological bound states in elastic phononic plates induced by disclinations

Baizhan Xia et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the role of disclinations in elastic phononic plates with topological nontrivial structures. It is found that the lattice deformation caused by disclinations creates a pentagonal core with local five-fold symmetry, which can produce localized topological bound states. These topological bound states exhibit good immunity to the size and imperfections of the plates.

Topological waves guided by a glide-reflection symmetric crystal interface

Julio Andres Iglesias Martinez et al.

Summary: A domain wall between different topological phases can support backscattering-immune guided wave propagation. Introduction of a glide-symmetric dislocation in a 2D crystal can generate wide-bandwidth, single-mode, and symmetry-protected guided waves. The change in the 2D Zak phase on either side of the interface provides a topological invariant protected by glide-reflection symmetry.

Acoustic Topological Circuitry in Square and Rectangular Phononic Crystals

Nicolas Laforge et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the experimental realization of complex topological phononic circuits using square and rectangular phononic crystals, showcasing exotic topological transport. The underlying structure must belong to square or rectangular lattice systems rather than hexagonal-based structures. Numerical simulations and experiments illustrate highly resolved edge states, paving the way for incorporation into acoustical devices.
