Exosomes Derived From Human Urine-Derived Stem Cells Overexpressing miR-140-5p Alleviate Knee Osteoarthritis Through Downregulation of VEGFA in a Rat Model

Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the superiority of hUSC-Exos overexpressing miR-140-5p in treating OA compared to regular hUSC-Exos. The effect of hUSC-140-Exos in suppressing the progression of KOA is partly mediated by VEGFA.

Urine-Derived Stem Cells for Regenerative Medicine: Basic Biology, Applications, and Challenges

Yi-Zhou Huang et al.

Summary: Regenerative medicine based on stem cell research has the potential to provide advanced health care for human beings. Human urine-derived stem cells (USCs), which are simple, low-cost, and noninvasive to isolate, have shown promising applications in regenerative medicine due to their high expandability and differentiation ability. USCs have shown potential in genitourinary regeneration, musculoskeletal repair, skin wound healing, and disease treatment.

A Review of Total Hip Arthroplasty Comparison in FNF and OA Patients

Jakub Szczesiul et al.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) for femoral neck fracture (FNF) and osteoarthritis (OA). The results indicated that FNF patients were more fragile and required additional care and attention, while the primary reason for the need for hip replacement surgery was osteoarthritis.

CoCrMo-Nanoparticles induced peri-implant osteolysis by promoting osteoblast ferroptosis via regulating Nrf2-ARE signalling pathway

Yiming Xu et al.

Summary: The study showed that CoCrMo nanoparticles induced ferroptosis in osteoblasts and led to particle-induced osteolysis (PIO) in animal models. Blocking ferroptosis with inhibitor Ferrostatin-1 reduced particle-induced ferroptosis significantly. CoNPs downregulated the expression of Nrf2 in osteoblasts, while overexpression of Nrf2 or using Nrf2 activator suppressed ferroptosis. In PIO animal models, combined use of Ferrostatin-1 and Oltipraz ameliorated ferroptosis and osteolysis severity.

Cimifugin Suppresses NF-κB Signaling to Prevent Osteoclastogenesis and Periprosthetic Osteolysis

Juan Duan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that CIM has the potential to inhibit RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis by suppressing the NF-kappa B signaling pathway in vitro, and prevent periprosthetic osteolysis in vivo. These findings suggest the therapeutic potential of CIM in the treatment of ALP.

Contemporary knee arthroplasty: one fits all or time for diversity?

Johannes Beckmann et al.

Summary: Total knee arthroplasty has historically been the preferred solution for knee osteoarthritis, but personalized medicine is now allowing for more individualized treatments like partial knee arthroplasty. Off-the-shelf implants are a compromise based on averages, while customized implants and personalized alignment options show potential to improve clinical outcomes by respecting individual diversity.

Platelet membrane and stem cell exosome hybrids enhance cellular uptake and targeting to heart injury

Shiqi Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, stem cell-derived exosomes were hybridized with platelet membranes to enhance their targeting ability for injured hearts and reduce uptake by macrophages. The hybridization induced macropinocytosis, significantly increasing cellular uptake by endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes. In vivo studies demonstrated the cardiac targeting ability of these hybrid exosomes in a mouse model of myocardial infarction, suggesting a potential therapeutic benefit over non-modified exosomes.

Zhu Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that human urine-derived stem cell exosomes (USC-exos) could promote nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis by transferring the MATN3 protein, potentially playing a role in alleviating intervertebral disc degeneration.
