Tuning the Synergistic Interplay between Clinical MRI Contrast Agents and MR-Active Metal-Organic Framework Nanoparticles

Konstantin Boell et al.

Summary: Enhancing contrast agent visibility in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a long-standing challenge. By embedding a well-known contrast agent within highly porous MR-active metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles, a confined MR-active environment is created, synergistically increasing the overall relaxivity. Statistical analysis using a multiparametric linear model reveals that the amount of embedded contrast agent dominates the MRI effect, potentially relevant for other nanoparticles. The improved MRI visualization may facilitate the development of MOF nanoparticles as a flexible and versatile nanocarrier platform for theranostic applications.

Current Trends in Metal-Organic and Covalent Organic Framework Membrane Materials

Bahram Hosseini Monjezi et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been extensively studied for gas separation membranes in recent years. New preparation methods have been developed for MOFs and COFs, as well as for mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs). Unique processes and materials, such as Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) transforming into glasses and liquids with permanent porosity for manufacturing potent MMMs, have been highlighted. MOF materials influenced by external stimuli offer new directions for performance enhancement using in situ techniques.

ZIF-8 Metal-Organic Framework Electrochemical Biosensor for the Detection of Protein-Protein Interaction

Luciana D. Trino et al.

Summary: A new label-free electrochemical biosensor based on Zeolitic Imidazole Framework (ZIF-8) was developed for monitoring protein-protein interactions (PPIs). The ZIF-8 crystals exhibited a rhombic dodecahedral structure with mainly exposed facets and a mean particle size of 205 (+/- 22) nm. The biosensor demonstrated higher sensitivity and reproducibility compared to the conventional solid-phase binding assay.
