De Novo Design of A Membrane-Anchored Probe for Multidimensional Quantification of Endocytic Dynamics

Kangqiang Qiu et al.

Summary: Endocytosis is a crucial cellular process for taking up nutrients and maintaining cellular homeostasis. Using the membrane-anchored pH probe ECGreen and structured illumination microscopy (SIM), the dynamics of endocytic vesicles can be visualized and analyzed. The multidimensional analysis model developed using ECGreen provides spatial, temporal, and pH information, allowing for a better understanding of endocytosis.

Biological Impacts of Reduced Graphene Oxide Affected by Protein Corona Formation

Roxana Coreas et al.

Summary: This study assessed the toxic effects of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) on mammary epithelial cells and found that rGO dissolved in sodium cholate may influence cellular toxicity. Surface-modified c-rGO exhibited higher toxicity, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial disruption compared to rGO, indicating a strong correlation between dispersant coating and cellular impacts.

Novel biodegradable two-dimensional vanadene augmented photoelectro-fenton process for cancer catalytic therapy

Yichu Nie et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel two-dimensional vanadium-based nanosheets (V NSs) were synthesized, which exhibited efficient energy conversions for photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT). The polyvalent surface design enabled the modulation of the tumor microenvironment and enhanced Fenton-like reaction activity. Moreover, the V NSs-based nanocatalyst showed high biodegradability and could be safely eliminated from the body after treatment.

Berberine reverses multidrug resistance in Candida albicans by hijacking the drug efflux pump Mdr1p

Yaojun Tong et al.

Summary: This study reveals a novel approach of reversing multidrug resistance in Candida albicans by using berberine to exploit the overexpressed drug efflux pump Mdr1p for its own transport, leading to compromised mitochondrial function and selective elimination of multidrug-resistant cells. Berberine treatment prolonged the survival time of mice with Mdr1p overexpressed candidiasis, suggesting a potential direction for anti-MDR drug discovery.
