A Novel Approach to Open Dead Space and Modify Interfacial Features of Carbon Nanotube Assemblies by a Microwave Shock

Dewu Lin et al.

Summary: A microwave shock approach is reported to open the dead space within carbon nanotube bundles, resulting in an increased interstitial surface area and lithiophilic functionalization without degradation of other properties. The treated CNT films demonstrate improved cycling stability and suppression of dendritic lithium growth, showing potential for further applications.

DNA-guided lattice remodeling of carbon nanotubes

Zhiwei Lin et al.

Summary: Covalent modification is a promising strategy for engineering the electronic structures of carbon nanotubes, but maintaining the registration between modification sites and the nanotube lattice is challenging. In this study, we propose a solution using DNA-directed, guanine-specific cross-linking chemistry, which results in the formation of an ordered defect array. We also find that the functionalized nanotubes exhibit an ordered helical structure with a fixed periodicity, suggesting the potential for remodeling the nanotube lattice and achieving novel electronic properties.
