Na2S decorated NiOx as effective hole transport layer for inverted planar perovskite solar cells

Qiannan Yao et al.

Summary: This study introduces an operative Na2S treated NiOx HTL, which improves the conductivity of the NiOx layers and the crystallinity of perovskite, leading to enhanced performance of inverted planar perovskite solar cells. The Na2S-decorated NiOx HTL not only suppresses interface defects, but also enhances hole extraction, resulting in improved short-circuit density, fill factor, and power conversion efficiency.

Evaporated Self-Assembled Monolayer Hole Transport Layers: Lossless Interfaces in p-i-n Perovskite Solar Cells

Ahmed Farag et al.

Summary: Engineering of the interface between perovskite absorber thin films and charge transport layers has significantly advanced perovskite solar cell (PSC) technology. The use of self-assembled monolayers (SAM-HTLs) as hole transport layers has led to almost lossless contacts, improving power conversion efficiency. This study demonstrates the successful vacuum-based evaporation of carbazole-based SAM-HTLs, which exhibit comparable performance to solution-processed counterparts, and also improves perovskite wetting and fabrication yield.

Revivification of nickel oxide-perovskite interfaces via nickel nitrate to boost performance in perovskite solar cells

Dilpreet Singh Mann et al.

Summary: Nickel nitrate is used to eliminate defect sites and hydroxyl groups on the surface of nickel oxide (NiOx), and a uniform and ultra-thin nickel nitride (NixN) layer is formed via spin coating at low temperatures. This approach improves the interface losses between NiOx and the perovskite layer, enhances charge extraction and transportation, and reduces charge recombination, resulting in high efficiency and long-term operational stability in perovskite solar cells (PSCs).

Managing the Double-Edged Sword of Ni3+in Sputter-Deposited NiOx by Interfacial Redox Reactions for Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells

Zongyang Peng et al.

Summary: Nickel oxide (NiOx) is commonly used as a hole transport material in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the presence of high concentration of Ni3+ can lead to undesirable reactions with perovskite materials, hindering charge transport. In this study, NiOx thin films with adjustable Ni3+ concentrations were fabricated using magnetron sputtering, and a layer of phenylethylamine iodide (PEAI) was introduced to minimize the detrimental effects of Ni3+. This work not only emphasizes the impact of Ni3+ content on PSCs performance and stability, but also presents a simple and effective strategy to prevent unwanted reactions between Ni3+ and perovskite materials in the fabrication of sputter-deposited NiOx PSCs.

Enhanced Self-Assembled Monolayer Surface Coverage by ALD NiO in p-i-n Perovskite Solar Cells

Nga Phung et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskites have excellent electronic properties, and recent advancements in device performance and stability of perovskite solar cells have been achieved with the application of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). By introducing an intermediate layer of NiO between ITO and SAM, the coverage and homogeneity of SAMs on the substrate can be improved, leading to enhanced device performance. The combination of NiO and SAM results in a more than 20% efficient champion device with a narrower distribution of performance.

Overcoming Ni3+-Induced Non-Radiative Recombination at Perovskite-Nickel Oxide Interfaces to Boost Voltages in Perovskite Solar Cells

Yaxiong Guo et al.

Summary: Nickel oxide (NiOx) is an ideal hole selective material (HSM) for perovskite photovoltaics due to its stability and low cost. By employing a lithium-doping strategy, the electronic levels of NiOx can be tuned to match the perovskite active layer, leading to increased open-circuit voltage values and power conversion efficiencies in perovskite solar cells. Additionally, a PN4N interlayer strategy helps reduce interfacial density of defect sites and trap-assisted recombination, contributing to lower energy loss across the perovskite/NiOx interface and facilitating charge transport process.
