An investigation on the influence of highly acidic media on the microstructural stability and dye adsorption performance of UiO-66

Kamyar Mirzaei et al.

Summary: The stability of UiO-66 in 1M HCl solution was investigated using various characterization techniques, and it was found that the structure of UiO-66 experienced partial breakdown but maintained its main structure and acceptable stability. Exposure to HCl solution led to missing-linker defects in the structure. The adsorption performance of acid-aged UiO-66 nanoparticles towards methyl orange (MO) dye showed a significant decrease in dye adsorption capacity compared to as-synthesized UiO-66.

MIL-100(Fe) a potent adsorbent of Dacarbazine: Experimental and molecular docking simulation

Mahdi Barjasteh et al.

Summary: In this study, MIL-100(Fe) metal-organic framework (MOF) was synthesized and used as an efficient adsorbent for removing Dacarbazine (DTIC) from contaminated water. The synthesized MOF particles exhibited high adsorption capacity due to their high surface area and suitable porous structure. The adsorption of DTIC onto the MOF followed the pseudosecond-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm model, and the adsorption mechanism was attributed to electrostatic interaction.

Magnetically separable solid phase extractor for static anionic dyes adsorption from aqueous solutions

Ahmed M. Elgarahy et al.

Summary: Thiourea was deposited on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles via a one-pot reaction to develop MNPs-TF as a new adsorbent. The adsorption process of MNPs-TF for CR and MO dyes was favorable in an acidic environment, dominated by the Langmuir assumption, and exothermic in nature. The synthesized adsorbent showed high recyclability of over 92% after 6 cycles.

Coordination chemistry of metal-organic frameworks: Detection, adsorption, and photodegradation of tetracycline antibiotics and beyond

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: Tetracyclines are a family of broad-spectrum antibiotics that persist in aquatic environments and can lead to antibiotic resistance and toxic effects in non-target organisms. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as effective alternatives due to their photocatalytic and adsorptive capabilities. This review summarizes recent progress in the detection, adsorption, and photocatalytic degradation of tetracyclines in water, discusses the use of MOFs critically, and introduces limitations and future prospects for the development of novel multi-functional MOF-based nanomaterials.

Improved adsorption performance of ZIF-8 towards methylene blue dye by hybridization with nanodiamond

Kamyar Mirzaei et al.

Summary: A series of ZIF-8/OND hybrid nanostructures with different percentages of oxidized nanodiamond (OND) were prepared and investigated for their adsorptive removal performance towards methylene blue (MB). The results showed that the addition of OND significantly enhanced the adsorption capacity and rate of ZIF-8 towards MB. The adsorption of MB onto ZND 5 was found to be an endothermic, spontaneous, and entropy-governed process.

Summary: This study incorporated NH2-MIL-101(Al) metal-organic frameworks covered with APTES into PES to produce MMMs for CO2 separation, resulting in improved dispersion of MOFs in the PES matrix and enhancement of CO2/CH4 separation efficiency. The membrane with S-MIL-5 (NH2-MIL-101(Al) functionalized with 5.0 mL of APTES) demonstrated a significant increase in CO2 permeability and ideal CO2/CH4 selectivity compared to PES membrane. Various analyses confirmed the excellent dispersion of MOFs in PES phase, leading to the improvement in gas permeability and selectivity.
